Thanks for the differing opinion. I...Anonymous,

Thanks for the differing opinion. I'm sure that the software has changed a lot since I made this first post (almost 4 years ago). I agree, realtime synchronization is a nice feature (much better than, say, weekly backups).

I still maintain, though, that the backup software should not take 8 days to do an initial backup of a few hundred gigs. Not that this is a fair comparison, but I seem to recall that an initial Time Machine backup on my Mac of something like 400GB took less than a day. Backing up my Windows machine to my Windows Home Server took a similar amount of time. There's something about the way that Autosync worked that was very inefficient.

There's a fair chance that the software has been improved at this point. I don't really have a need for Autosync (or any similar product) now, but I'll consider evaluating it again in the future.Danhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06099373265709774874noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-32241238.post-52774259946141157332012-01-02T22:38:59.362-05:002012-01-02T22:38:59.362-05:00I am a user of both Memeo Autobackup and Memeo Syn...I am a user of both Memeo Autobackup and Memeo Synch. I don't have any relationship with the company. I have been reading other users comments and I found that those that find Memeo slow or problematic is because they haven't really investigated about Memeo. Memeo is not a simple copy/paste program, it performs other operations and it tries to do it by consuming few resources of your computer. Of course if you are trying to backup or synch hundreds of GB, it will take days or even weeks (in that case it is better the first time to copy all the information to the backup or synch unit directly, without using Memeo). After that, Memeo should work silently using few resources and taking care of creating incremental backups or synchronizing the data from different devices. We actually use Memeo in a small company to backup the data of 7 computers into one network hard drive and it works fine. Memeo is not good to create incremental backups of large files that are constantly changing. For example files of Email clients (Thunderbird, Outlook express), or if you do video editing with movies or other media files. I would say that you should give a second chance to this program, specially if your files whose size is in the range of 0MB to 50MB (documents, mp3 files, pictures, etc.)Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-32241238.post-11213591097045558562011-10-28T17:57:06.718-04:002011-10-28T17:57:06.718-04:00Something is hogging my Ram, when I have nothing r...Something is hogging my Ram, when I have nothing running something is using over 55% of my memory. The thought of losing all of this without proper backup would be a nightmare. This was supposed to be a second external hard drive to back my my computer, so as to leave my C: drive clean and then the computer will run smoothly. We installed memeo autosync thinking it would make sure that everything backed up on both external drives. Except I now find out almost a year later that it is also backing everything -ALL OF MY PICS on my C drive which is slowing everything down.Just what I didn't want! I can't find pictures to email them. The picture program picasa also came with it. I like this program, but I didn't realize that it dosen't save them to the new external drive. When I update a photo it sends it to some obscure file within a file within a file, etc., etc., I have to run a search just to find one picture. I just discovered that there are so many multiples of each picture that I think it is duplicating things like a virus. I want to delete the pictures off my C drive but I'm afraid it will back up and delete all of the files off my other drives, because it will probably sync by deleting files I deleted on C drive as well as duplicating new files!!!!!!! I thought we removed the autosync, but apparently it's still there. And my computer is running much slower. This is really screwed up and I wouldn't recommend this product. If my files get deleted who's fault is this. Years and Years of research for my artwork, what's that worth? I guess they could care less!!!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-32241238.post-48976552998054058472009-07-19T17:07:13.487-04:002009-07-19T17:07:13.487-04:00I agree that this memeo malware is a piece of junk...I agree that this memeo malware is a piece of junk!
It's simply HORRIBLE.

I only wished I had read about it BEFORE installing this crap.

SHAME on you WD for putting all of us through this!

We PAID you and THIS is what we get???

A backup of only 50 Gig (onto a 1TB WD My Book Home Edition) took more than 3 days!!

I started several times over because I could not believe how slow it was.
I even got a firwire cable, but it is really the software.

Now I did that same thing with acronis' free software (from Seagate) and it has finished already. I was skeptical about the Memeo included backup software but intrigued by the idea of automatic backup of changed files. So, I stupidly went ahead with the first backup of my desktop hard drive to the DriveStation connected to my home network. I designated a group of files, mostly photos, that amounted to about 150 GB. If you want to read people going nuts about Lenovo's Rescue and Revoery go here. Automating backups is appealing, but it ties up the CPU, RAM and hard disc space. There are some serious issues here about giving the user control and knowledge of the process, and Memeo has done a terrible job with those.Stevehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15264977010144529019noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-32241238.post-16327443156007166692009-02-06T09:24:00.000-05:002009-02-06T09:24:00.000-05:00again i want to say to all those saying its very s...again i want to say to all those saying its very slow etc..
in my experience the speed is within reason, and very reliable, i am talking not about the backup program but about the sync program, and just to clarify, what Daniel Yankowsky has come up with this wonderful conspiracy theory, i just want to say that mr Yankowsky we don't live in the soviet union anymore and people are allowed to disagree, especially when its factual i use the program on a daily basis.davehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00530915649668818557noreply@blogger.com
